| VIJAYAWADA: The Rajasekhara Reddy Government has sanctioned developmental programmes on an unprecedented scale for Krishna district, said speakers at the closing ceremony of ‘Praja Patham-2008’ held in Swaraj Maidan on Monday.
Ministers Koneru Ranga Rao (Municipal Administration), Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao (Rural Water Supply), Mandali Buddha Prasad (Animal Husbandry), Government Whip Samineni Udayabhanu, Zilla Parishad chairman Kukkala Nageswara Rao, MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah, MLAs Devineni Rajasekhar (Kankipadu), Yerneni Raja Ramchander (Kaikaluru), Sk. Nasar Vali (Vijayawada West) and district Collector Shailaja Ramaiyer participated in the meeting, in which loans to the tune of Rs. 3 crores were disbursed to 600 self help groups.
Mr. Rajasekhar presided over the meeting in the absence of Vijayawada East MLA Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, in whose Assembly constituency the venue was a part.
Schemes
The speakers listed one after the other the infrastructure and the schemes sanctioned for Krishna district by the Congress Government. Foundation stones had been laid for a modern deepwater port at Machilipatnam and an IIIT college at Nuzvid, while the south India campus of the School of Planning and Architecture had been sanctioned.
Foundation stone had also been laid for a super-specialty veterinary hospital, they said. Work was progressing on the long pending Pulichintala Project Mr. Rajasekhar used the platform to lambast the Telugu Desam Party leaders who were making “baseless allegations” against the Government. Mr. Udayabhanu said the State Government was giving to the poor a kg of rice for just Rs 2. A person would have to spend more to buy a decent cup of tea.
Mr. Ranga Rao said he had worked closely with several chief ministers but had not come across one like Dr. Reddy. The Chief Minister had converted the Government into a “weapon” for resolving the problems of the people.
Mr. Buddha Prasad said he had never come across a more humane Chief Minister than Dr. Reddy, which was evident in the manner in which he had announced the Government’s willingness to bear the cost of air travel of Jyothimayi’s family members to the UK. |
