VIJAYAWADA: “Watch movies the world does,” says a neon signboard outside the renovated Urvasi theatre complex at Gandhi Nagar, which has now been re-christened as ‘INOX at Urvasi’ and is all set to become the first multiplex in the city.

“Just wait for a few weeks and we’re sure you will experience a different kind of cinema viewing,” promises P. Rajanikanth, Regional General Manager of the Mumbai-based INOX Leisure Limited.

The Urvasi complex, a landmark in the city for screening Hollywood and Bollywood classics till May last, has been refurbished totally to offer cosy environs to film goers.

As a result of an agreement signed by the Poorna Pictures, the owners of the theatre complex and the Mumbai-based firm, the theatre triplet has been converted into a multiplex.

From parking lot to projector cabin, every inch of the complex has been done up aesthetically.

The erstwhile Rambha, Urvasi and Menaka theatres have now been named as screen one, screen two and screen three with a seating capacity of 570, 282 and 235, respectively.

“Redesigning an old theatre complex is a tedious task, as compared to designing a new one. Since we have to follow a set of guidelines that are uniform to all our multiplexes in the chain, we don’t compromise at any stage,” says Mr. Rajanikanth, closely monitoring the renovation works that are in the final stages. He is unwilling to divulge details of the ticket rates, but promises that it will be a real ‘value for money’.
NBC rules

The renovation has been done as per the provisions of the National Building Code. Fireproof material has been used even for seat covers. “Smoking is strictly prohibited in this complex. It is a uniform rule for all INOX complexes,” he points out. In the corridor, ‘Refuel’ is available as a snack bar for the patrons who wish to have a quick bite or gulp down a soft drink. Though initially it was planned to add a few showrooms in the complex, the promoters have dropped the idea as NBC rules do not allow it.

“I’m very happy to see my complex coming up with an elegant look. The INOX has spent huge money and given a marvellous shape to the complex. It will surely attract foreigners too,” says Grandhi Viswanath, Managing Director of the Poorna Pictures.
