| “Notice on Gadde’s firm is part of identfication of assigned lands”
Flyover to be laid from Pedda Avutapalli to Veerapanenigudem
Road blocks cleared for IT park at Kesarapalli
VIJAYAWADA: Krishna district Collector Navin Mittal on Wednesday clarified that the revenue officials served a notice on Balaji Aqua and Agro Products Private Limited owned by TDP leader Gadde Rammohan for allegedly possessing nearly 80 acres of government land and assigned land “only as part of the continuous exercise of identifying such lands.”
Prima facie
Mr. Mittal said in reply to a question at a press conference that the district administration had already identified 15,000 acres of assigned lands during a survey recently, and of this 12,000 acres had already been taken back. The reclaimed lands would be distributed among the poor on November 19.
The Collector said that the notice was served as it was found “prima facie” that the firm was in possession of 83 acres of patta land, 67 acres of assigned land and 12 acres of government land.
The government would take a decision on taking back the lands after receiving a reply from the firm in the stipulated 15 days.
Flyover
Mr. Mittal said that the two prestigious institutions of higher learning allocated to the district – a campus of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) and the south India campus of the Delhi-based School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) – were likely to begin functioning from the academic year 2009-10.
Though it was initially proposed that the IIIT campus would be located at Veerapanenigudem, a village just 7-8 km away from Gannavaram Airport, it was later decided to locate it on a 100-acre site at Nuzvid, on which a long-standing legal dispute had come to an end with the parties withdrawing their claim.
The land identified at Veerapanenigudem would be used for the SPA campus, and the district administration would also construct a flyover from Pedda Avutapalli to Veerapanenigudem across the railway track to facilitate easy movement of vehicles.
The Collector disclosed that efforts were on to set up an Indian Institute of Tourism & Management in the city.
About giving a fillip to IT and IT-enabled services, Mr. Mittal said all road blocks had been cleared for the IT Park at Kesarapalli near Gannavaram, and along with it the district administration was proposing to develop a facility for IT firms at the two-acre site on the ITI campus where the STPI was located.

| Centre’s nod for school of architecture
It will offer graduate, post-graduate and doctoral education
HRD Minister had given an assurance to YSR more than a year ago
The site is close to Gannavaram airport
VIJAYAWADA: The Union Cabinet’s nod on Thursday to the setting up of a School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) here along with another one in Bhopal, has come as the final and long awaited stamp of approval to the assurance given by Union Minister for Human Resource Development Arjun Singh to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy more than a year ago.
As the Cabinet cleared an expenditure of Rs.348.50 crores for the two institutions, the proposed SPA here is expected to get about half of the amount.
The Cabinet said that the project would be completed by 2012-13, but it is not clear whether admissions would be made at least from the academic year 2009-10 as expected earlier.
The SPA will offer graduate, post-graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral education in architecture and town planning, while also fostering research of a high order in these areas.
These institutes will “create a cadre of high calibre faculty members who will be devoted to teaching, research and consultancy in all disciplines that deal with planning and architecture.” “Also, SPAs will be socially responsible institutions providing research feedback to the government for physical development of human settlements.
The institutes would also contribute to highly competent and trained manpower that would inevitably impact positively on the economic growth of the country,” the Cabinet noted.
Infrastructure
The State government and the district administration have some time ago started creating the required infrastructure for the SPA at Veerapanenigudem, a village located at a distance of just 7 to 8 km from the Gannavaram airport.
The land, about 80 acres identified earlier for the IIIT campus, has been earmarked for the SPA campus.
Officials from the Central government and the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education visited the site on a couple of occasions and suggested the measures that need to be taken for a state-of-the-art campus to come up there.
On its part, the district administration offered to construct a flyover from Pedda Avutapalli to Veerapanenigudem across the railway track to facilitate easy movement of vehicles.
