VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman M. Rajaiah on Tuesday regretted that Andhra Pradesh had not found a place in the list of States for which the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development sanctioned an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) each recently.
In a letter to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Mr. Rajaiah said an IIM had been sanctioned to the coastal districts of the State but it was dropped finally in view of competition from those who came out in support of Vijayawada and those who favoured Visakhapatnam. He pointed out that the new IIM was ultimately sanctioned for Tamil Nadu. Mr. Rajaiah demanded that Vijayawada be selected for setting up the new IIM to make up for the lack of development in the city and in view of the fact that successive Governments had not paid heed to its potential.
He sought to dispel the notion that industrial development was not possible in the surroundings of Vijayawada due to lack of land.
Pointing out that a world-class Central University was sanctioned for Visakhapatnam, Mr. Rajaiah said Vijayawada deserved a similar opportunity and the Government should consider it for setting up the new IIM.

Does this mean that Vizag killed the chance of VIjayawada getting an IIM ? |
yes.....andhra pradesh lost iim bcoz of vizag |
It sounds so foolish whatever, spellbound that Vizag killed the chances of Vijayawada getting an IIM when the news itself answers your question or your false point of view ....
When IIM was proposed, the natural choices were Vizag and VJA but being a second biggest agglomeration in the state which fits the criteria Vizag stood out ahead of VJA beating fierce competition by it's potential .....In view of Central University being sanctioned for Vizag the idea of IIM was later dropped as IIT was also already sanctioned to Medak in AP according to HRD minister Purandeshwari devi but what has Vizag done that killed the chances of VJA getting IIM ???
Regarding Vizag it never said VJA should'nt get IIM or anything and i personally appreciated every development that comes up in Vijayawada or anywhere in the state based on potential but not on politics.
Why not demand and protest to make the Govt consider VJA for IIM based on it's potential rather than sulking in the sun that Vizag got one ?? |

The centre is doing a balancing act here. If AP has an IIT, a CU then no IIM. IIT went to Hyd and CU went to Vizag so no IIM which could have gone to Vijayawada. If the state is run by Kostha fanatics as you fantasize they would have persuaded the centre to drop plans for CU and instead sanction an IIM for Vijayawada.
They too would have forwarded the "potential" arugments about location of Vijayawada, agricultural hiterland blah blah.
The fact is with VIzag getting a CU Vijayawda lost an IIM. This is not because the people of Vizag prevented an IIM to Vijaywada but it happened as an implication of Vizag getting a CU as the state politicians favoured it. It is a political decision to deny an IIM in Vijayawada in favour of a CU in Vizag. |

Let me clear of your false notion and little knowledge of details of any issue --- First IIM came into picture then Vizag and VJA were initial choices in which Vizag stood ahead and the idea of IIM to VJA was dropped at the initial stage itself ok but there is no implicit choice of IIM to VJA as you were saying, then the picture of CU came into picture and it was also sanctioned to Vizag so because of CU getting sanctioned to Vizag the idea of IIM to Vizag was dropped and later on because of IIT,CU sanctioned to AP the whole idea of IIM was dropped to AP as centre wants to keep balance between all States in India in establishing premier institutions.....Below are the links to brush your knowledge with facts

The fact is that VJA was brushed off in the initial stage itself and later IIM for Vizag was dropped in view oF CU to Vizag......so rather than making all this false claims why not demand and protest to consider VJA for IIM with all support of state as IIM was dropped to Vizag, now i feel VJA has a better chance to push the case forward to pouch IIM into state kitty.... |
