| Rs 100cr jute park planned near Vizag
Andhra Pradesh Jute Development Centre Limited (APJDC), a special purpose vehicle formed recently by jute industrialists in the state, will be setting up a jute park in Sabbavaram mandal of Visakhapatnam district at an outlay of Rs 100 crore.
The proposed park will come up on 150 acres to be allotted by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). It will have four integrated mills that will churn out fine yarn, textiles and fabric among others to support the manufacture of diversified jute products by 90 small and medium enterprises that are expected to set up shop in the park, BV Rama Rao, vice-chairman and managing director of APJDC and managing director of Srikakulam-based Swarnandhra Jute Mills Private Limited, told mediapersons here on Tuesday.
The Vizag jute park will be one of the six to be established in the country as part of the Union textiles ministry's decision to promote diversified jute products. Work on the park will take off in February 2009 and will completed in two years from then.
Rao said the textiles ministry had agreed to provide a grant of Rs 40 crore for the development of infrastructure facilities at the park, while the Andhra Pradesh government will supply power at a subsidised rate of 70 paise per unit, reimbursement of stamp duty on land registration and hypothecation of deeds besides extending a three per cent rebate in interest on loans.
"The remaining Rs 60 crore will be mopped up through various state government agencies and anchor partners," Rao said, adding the park is expected to attract investments of Rs 500 crore and has the potential to create direct and indirect employment for around 20,000 people.
At present, Andhra Pradesh accounts for 200,000 acre of crop under mestha (jute used for making gunny sacks and twine) primarily in the two districts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram. The proposed park will also encourage the cultivation of mestha on a large scale, Rao said. _________________ Sir |

| Operations at Gangavaram port may begin in Aug
After Krishnapatnam port, it is the turn of the Gangavaram port near Visakhapatnam to begin commercial operations.
The phase-1 of the project would go on stream with five berths with an annual capacity of 35 million tonnes .
Of the five berths, three would be handling general cargo and one each for iron ore and coal.
This would be the second port after Krishnapatnam that could handle mother ships, giving a boost to the East Coast’s shipping strengths. The greenfield Gangavaram port was to start commercial operations well ahead of Krishnapatnam port.
But issues such as rehabilitation and weather have pushed it back.
The multi-purpose port that could handle ships of two lakh dwt (dead weight tonnes) is being taken up in a public-private partnership mode.
While Mr D.V.S. Raju (who founded VisualSoft) and others held 64 per cent, Warberg Pincus, the global private equity investment firm had 25 per cent, the Andhra Pradesh Government picked 11 per cent, a senior Government official told Business Line.
The Rs 2,600-crore phase-2, work for which work had begun simultaneously, would have nine berths more, giving the port a capacity of 75 mt.
Expansion plans
The port, then, would go for the major expansion of 29 berths with an estimated investment of Rs 10,000 crore, giving a capacity of 200 mt.
The company had already pumped in Rs 1,500 crore by May 31, on the first phase.
The master plan, which provides for facilities for ship building and repair works, has scope for development of port-related facilities in an extent of 2,800 acres, the official said.
The port would have an exclusive railway line connecting with the Chennai-Howrah line.
Besides, it would have a dedicated four-lane expressway to give connectivity to the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway.
The port would employ mechanised cargo handling to ensure faster ferrying of the cargo. _________________ Sir |

| Tata Refractories plans IPO in 2009, second unit in Vizag
Tata Refractories Ltd (TRL), which has a 2.5 lakh tonne per annum facility in Belpahar (Orissa) and operations in China, is planning to enter the market with an initial public offering (IPO) in 2009.
"We would have to go for an IPO, but as of now we have not decided on the timing. It is very clear that the way the company is growing it has to go public, and I am sure that would happen some time during 2009," said CD Kamath, managing director, speaking to FE on Tuesday.
Tata Steel now has a 72% stake in unlisted Tata Refractories. SAIL owns 10%, while the rest is held by institutions like UTI, IDBI and some of its current and ex-employees.
TRL's main plant in the country at Belpahar (Orissa) with a capacity of around 2.5 lakh tonne per annum is said to be among the biggest single-location refractory units in the world.
In line with its growth projections, the company has selected Visakhapatnam as its second major plant location in the country. It initially wants to put up a Rs 90-crore high alumina refractory unit there in 2009 and then go on to add a high-tech 'monolithics' plant.
Easy to lay, monolithics are special refractory formulations in the powder form for doing castables, which can be used by industries ranging from steel to petroleum.
The company is already in the process of identifying a 30-acre plot for the proposed facility in Vizag.
TRL, which reported a turnover of Rs 610 crore in 2007-08, is targeting to cross the Rs 700 crore-mark in the current fscal.
The company has in April 2008 launched a five-year turnover target, Mission 2000, which aims to take the turnover to Rs 2,000 crore by March 2013. "I do hope that we will reach Rs 1,000 crore very quickly and then Rs 2,000 crore by March 2013," said Kamath.
TRL is operating a magnesite-based refractory unit in China since early 2007, where it recently invested Rs 75 crore in two tranches of Rs 37 crore and Rs 17 crore in order to double the capacity from 30,000 tonne per annum to 64,000 tonne per annum.
The company also plans to have a bauxite-based refractory project each in China and the West Asia. It is running a joint venture unit at Semikhayali in the Bhuj region of Gujarat along with the GMDC and a private equity partner....

| BHEL to put up locomotive plant
ET reported that Bharat Heavy Electricals is planning to set up a Greenfield project for manufacturing locomotives in the country.
As per report, the company is already in talks with global majors such as French train maker Alstom, German rail transit solutions firm Bombardier Transportation, Siemens and General Electric for forming a JV.
The report added that BHEL proposes to offer 49% equity to its partner in the new venture. The project will start with an initial investment of INR 10 billion. BHEL is already looking for tie up with a foreign locomotive manufacturer to set up an electric locomotive factory at Madhepura in eastern Bihar.
The move comes after BHEL decided to bid for the tender floated by Indian Railways to procure 660 electric locomotives at an estimated cost of INR 250 billion.
The report further added that the company has a board meeting on September 17th where the issue of offering 49% in the JV will be discussed. It will announce the JV by end of this month. The company has already identified 2 locations Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and Vizag in Andhra Pradesh where this project will be set.
