Purandeswari promises to solve problems

To take charge as Union Minister of State for HRD tomorrow

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Says she has no regrets about not being made Cabinet Minister

World-class university proposed here will not be shifted, she says

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VISAKHAPATNAM: Creating a separate Railway zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters or merging Waltair Division with the South Central Railway, and controlling pollution are not issues that could be resolved easily, Union Minister for HRD D. Purandeswari said, but assured that she would make all efforts to do justice to the region.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday on her arrival from New Delhi after being appointed as Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Ms. Purandeswari said she had no regrets about not being elevated as Cabinet Minister or given independent charge. “My three years of good work has impressed Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and (UPA Chairperson) Ms. Sonia Gandhi and they wanted continuity and asked me to take up the ministry again.

This itself is a great honour for me. HRD is an important ministry also,” she said.

On the difficulty of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant not getting dedicated iron ore mines, the Minister said the National Minerals Act has a clause which states that the Government of the State in which the mines located has to give permission and in the case of VSP the mines it required are in Chattisgarh and Orissa.

She assured that she would take up the issue with the Ministries concerned.

Ms. Purandeswari would take charge on Monday. She thanked the people of Visakhapatnam for electing her as their MP though she was not a local.

“Visakhapatnam has given me its mandate and thus, more responsibility has been bestowed on me. I will do as much I can to improve the constituency,” the Union Minister said.

She said her parents’ blessings were always with her and the party was supporting her all through.

Ms. Purandeswari assured the locals that the world class university proposed here would not be shifted.

The university would come up here and since the process would take some more time, it would not be realised from the ensuing academic year.

Post subject: No Merger.. We want a New Zone
Reply with quote

All politicians are the same. Before elections she said something and now after getting the seat its totally different.
If you remember her previous interviews, she says she will not sleep till vizag gets a new railway zone and setting up of new zone with vizag as HQ was top on agenda and now she says of merger of vizag with SCR. If vizag is merged wth SCR then every one can imagine whats going to happen. Remember Vizag zone revenue in railways is the 2nd highest after Mumbai and hyderabad is far behind. Please correct this if I am wrong.
We want a new zone and not merger with SCR. Change will come to Vizag only if new zone is created. This new zone should start from Parlakhimdi(AP-Orissa Border) and end at Vijayawada or Eluru. This way justice will be done to the ditricts of VZM and SKLM also, where the ralways has totally neglected.

This was her recent interview in hindu new paper.
Stating that gross injustice was done to Waltair division of the railways, which contributes a lot to the exchequer, he thanked the MP-elect from Visakhapatnam and Union Minister Daggubati Purandeswari for expressing her resolve to keep her promise on granting of new railway zone.

The Union Minister, during her campaigning had also went to the extent of saying that she would pitch a tent in front of the house of Railway Minister to reiterate the demand of locals on sanction of railway zone with headquarters in the city.

Stating that Praja Spandana and other outfits were running from pillar to post for a long time to press for railway zone, he hoped that with the initiative of Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy and the Congress leadership, the new zone would be created at the earliest.

Works at Visakhapatnam railway station in full swing

GOING HI-TECH: A model of the proposed Visakhapatnam Railway Station building.

Most of the works will be completed by December, 2009 According to Divisional Railway Manager D. Kamilla

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Works worth Rs.16.38 crores taken up, says DRM

Air-conditioned reservation complex being built

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AGONISING WAIT: Passengers at the reservation counter at the Visakhapatnam Railway Station. —

VISAKHAPATNAM: Development works at the Visakhapatnam railway station, taken up with the twin objectives of providing more amenities to passengers and giving a new, elegant look to the station’s visage, are in full swing. Completion of these works will result in availability of more commercial space on the station premises, enabling authorities to earn additional revenue. In all, works to the tune of Rs.16.38 crores had been taken up and so far more than half the amount had been spent.

According to Divisional Railway Manager D. Kamilla, most of the works would be completed by December this year. The two-storey façade of the station would have aluminium glazed windows and architectural elevation and would have an elegant look. There would be two main entries as against one at present. While ground floor would be used as walkway for passengers, the first floor would be used for providing additional amenities to passengers. An amount of Rs.3.13 crores is being spent for this. Water fountain with horticulture works, landscaping in front of main entry would enhance the beauty of the station’s visage.

The second entry near the existing booking office would have ‘multi layered thermo clear lexan sheet cover’ on an area of 500 sq.m. (It is like the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation’s green crescent sheet on the side of the main road). This is the first railway station to have such sheet. The provision of toughened glass panelling would add to its elegance, he said.

The most important work is the air-conditioned reservation complex, being constructed at a cost of Rs.3.20 crores. This complex with vitrified flooring would have 12 counters and a lot of waiting place. Also there would be exclusive second class waiting rooms for ladies and gents with the multi layered thermo clear lexan sheet at the front. Provision of shelters to platforms 2,3,4 and 5 would be completed by August, the DRM said. These platforms with heavy duty mosaic tiles would be provided with modern water cubicles for drinking water. The use and pay toilet on the platform no.1 is an eyesore. This would be shifted to the south end.

The south end of the foot-overbridge (FOB) would be extended to platforms 6, 7 and 8. All platforms would have stainless steel benches. Mr. Kamilla said that the development works of second phase worth Rs.7.25 crores were also being finalized. These include renovation of retiring rooms and dormitories, widening of road and parking lots.

Forget about the new railway zone with vizag as HQ because already our mp Puran has stated that she mentioned about it to railway minister and got a stern No for that from mamta....This answer is well expected and has been told to us earlier by lalu, nitish etc and our mp's never dared to challenge that anymore so the best we can expect to escape from the atrocities under ECor is to get merged into SCR...Guddi lo mella melu kadha

If we want a new zone with vizag HQ then it will be possible only with a big people's movement like VSP but not from any state politicians because they will never fight united to get something to the state....Shame on us having 33 mps we fail again and again to get something to us and on the other hand TN with 18 mps will always gain an upper hand in grabbing most from the Centre with united agitation...One classic example is creation of separate railway zone with salem HQ so they have two zones in one state now, which was the same reason stated for non possiblity of making a new zone with Vizag HQ as we have SCR with Secunderabad HQ in the same state....Rules only apply to AP because our Rulers are spineless
