Kingfisher to launch Vijayawada-Tirupati flights soon

VIJAYAWADA: Here is a good news for Vijayawadians! The Kingfisher, which is operating flights from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, is now planning to introduce flights from Vijayawada to Tirupati and Visakhapatnam soon.

As air traffic is improving and the occupancy rate in the Vijayawada- Bangalore-Vijayawada and Vijayawada- Hyderabad is encouraging, officials of the airline are planning to operate Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam services for four days in a week and to Tirupati on weekends.

Besides, they are also planning to introduce a service to Chennai later, according to sources here.

Officials have sent proposals and the new services are likely to find a place in the new air traffic schedule to be released next month. The officials are planning to introduce the new services expecting good response from air travellers of both Krishna and neighbouring West Godavari and Guntur districts as they are easily accessible.

AIRPORT EXPANSION: Contractors from New Delhi are planning to launch the airport runway expansion work by month-end.

The officials are taking up the runway expansion in the existing land available with the airport. The present runway measures 1,745 m and the officials are planning to expand it to 2,300 m in the available land. Further, they are planning to expand it to 2,700 m by acquiring land to facilitate the landing of Boeing aircraft.

As there is a delay in acquisition of land for further expansion of the runway, the officials are planning to take up the first phase of expansion in the available land.

Simultaneously, airport officials will take up expansion of apron, providing parking facility for five aircraft at a time.

The officials have also developed the arrival lounge at the airport and are planning to set up a conveyor belt for baggage movement.

Several air passengers in the region seek more flights connecting various cities. A majority of software professionals hail from the coastal districts and they prefer air travel. Besides, the Gannavaram airport has the night landing facility and navigation aids like DVOR.

Hi All members, Please clarify.. Vijayawada really getting an international airport or just modernization of the existing domestic airport? I dont have any source but i read long time back that a state cannot own two IA's within a distance of 500 KM. Hyd is less than 300 KM and Vizag also less then 500 KM. First vijayawada need connectivity to all major cities of india(not by train).
